LAPAROSCOPY
Small Incisions Surgery
This is probably the procedure most used by surgeons in this days. This is an approaching technique for many surgical operations that avoids big incisions. The approximate size of the incision is in the range from 5 mm to 1 cm.
Today it is used in many operations like for a gallblader resection, gastro - esophageal reflux correction, obesity control surgery, appendicectomy, colon resection and others. Gynecology and orthopedic surgery are using this as well.
The surgeon has an advantage with laparoscopy because the images in a monitor are magnified. With a good resolution monitor the details of inner organs are much better seen. The benefits for the patients are faster recovery and less pain. This means less incapacitation days.
Finally, the incisions are small and after healing they are barely noticeable.
